NOTABLE CHARM

Though Benton has experienced exponential growth since the turn of the century, the city still maintains the feel and charm of a small southern town. Like the Third Thursday Downtown Street Festival with vendors, live music, food trucks and something for the whole family to enjoy. As one of the largest suburbs of Little Rock, Benton serves as the perfect bedroom community for commuters in and out of the city.

BACKSTORY

The area that would become Benton was first settled several years before Arkansas became a state in 1836, and the city received its official charter that same year. Named after Missouri Senator Thomas Hart Benton, the community grew up around the discovery of bauxite ore (which serves as the source ore for aluminum). Mining bauxite became the thrust of the local economy and saw output reach its peak during World War II.
